This morning I watched the first half of the friendly game between Schalke 04 and FC Copenhagen. The match ended with a 0:2 lead for the Danish team. Two things caught my attention while watching the first half. The first is a playstyle for 1-2 touches in front of the opponent’s penalty area. Players from Copenhagen did not hold the ball, did not run with it, but tried to play for 1-2 touches, which significantly accelerated their game and introduced a lot of confusion in the opponent’s formations. In addition, you can see how nicely they were trying to get into the free zones.

The second thing that caught my eye was the behavior of the goalkeeper – Kamil Grabara. Watching firts half of this game, you can see how well he is in tune with his teammates by sending them direct and accurate passes. Thanks to this, the Kopenhagen players were able to transfer the game straight into the opponent’s half. The pass from the 34th minute transfer the game to the opponent’s half and as you watch the video, you will notice that it was the beginning of the action which lead to score the first goal.

COMMENT: Here Grabara send direct pass into the middle area. It can be seen that Kopenghagen players have a lot of free space in here and can push their action deeper – into opponents half.

COMMENT: Here Grabara send direct pass straight into opponents half. It can be seen that there are 3 Kopenhagen players against 3 defenders. In this situation a little offside was signalized by the ref (a bit of luck for Schalke players)

COMMENT: Here Grabara send another direct pass straight into opponents half. It can be seen that the forward is in 1×1 situation with the defender.

COMMENT: Here Grabara send another direct pass straight into opponents half. It can bo noted that the pass from Grabara opened up the opportunity for offensive players to create a dangerous advantage in front of the opponent’s goal – just win a 1v1 duel with a defender.

COMMENT: Here Grabara send another direct pass straight into opponents half. It can bo noted that the pass from Grabara opened up the opportunity for offensive players to create a dangerous advantage in front of the opponent’s goal – 2 v 2 in the side zone. The pass from the Grabara leads into the goal in the next few seconds ( of course a very good technical and tactical behavior of offensive players was also needed to take advantage of this action)
